Our Vision

A membership group for grant funders in Jersey, formed in 2016.

Our purpose is to encourage and co-ordinate charitable and philanthropic funders to maximise the efficient and effective application of grants to charities.

Our Mission

  • To strengthen Jersey's charitable and philanthropic sector through collaboration, communication and networking with all interested parties.
  • To act as a forum for charitable and philanthropic grant makers to exchange views and experiences.
  • To facilitate the connection and communication of funders with charities and charities with funders.
  • To increase the awareness of available funds and the financial needs of specific charities.
  • To enhance the impact, the benefit and the difference that funds can make for the people and purposes for which the charities exist.
  • To encourage good organisational governance, accountability and feedback from funders and charities.
  • To assist in streamlining application procedures, whilst respecting the independence of the different funders.
  • To provide a safe, confidential place for funders to collaborate and network.
  • To act as a critical friend to government.

Who are we?

Examples of assured sources are:

• Interest and dividends on investments

• Rent from land or property

• Spending of capital

• Family offices, trusts or foundations

Accommodation

JFG normally meets at Pip's Place, Union Street, St Helier.

Who attends?

Member organisations to nominate individuals (normally a maximum of two and normally a board member and an executive officer) holding key positions in their organisations to attend meetings.

Members cannot be potential future grant applicants and new members must be approved by more than 50% of the existing members.

Conflicts of Interest

We operate as an informal, trusting organisation. Members are expected to be open about any potential or existing conflicts of interest.

Recent Activities

  • We identified a training need among Jersey charities and agreed to jointly fund the cost of training which was offered to help charities better understand outputs, outcomes and impact,
  • We have co-funded larger charitable projects,
  • We have adopted the Social Bridging Finance model – entering into a partnership with government and a charity to initiate a new service, funding a pilot programme and an independent evaluator with the clear, written understanding that, if the new service were judged a success during the pilot, then government would support the new service financially in the future
  • We invite enquiries from charities seeking funding through our email jerseyfunders@gmail.com,
  • We invite speakers to attend our meetings, either to inform of developments in the sector or from charities seeking substantial funds for significant projects.
